Sweet treats in the Pacific Northwest

‘Something Special from Seattle’

Role

Logo design, colour palette, brand design

Starbucks aren’t the only export from Seattle aiming to get your taste buds tingling. Something Special from Seattle are a small-business that aimed to launch a varied range of hand-made, ethically sourced confectionery with unique flavours, natural ingredients and unique appearances.

They just needed a brand to bring it to life; the ask was to include iconic elements of Seattle at the heart of the branding, as well as splitting the branding into two distinct styles. The first would champion a more artisanal, luxe brand of chocolates and truffles, the second takes a more fun and colourful approach to marketing gummies, candies and fruit sweets.

For the luxe brand, we selected what we felt was the strongest logo of the bunch. Its overall silhouette and simple approach felt the most fitting, and it was easy to shift through different colour palettes and still feel appropriate. The typography contrasts the extravagant Riesling with the classic, clean Futura.

The gummy brand needed to feel fun, accessible and intriguing. The Mint candy and Space Needle grab the viewers attention, whilst Coral is bright, playful and complimentary without being overbearing.

From the offset, I felt the typography here needed to have personality and flourish. I opting for dynamic and bold font choices with a nod to some retro styles, in the form of Vignettic and Keep on Truckin’.
