Inspired by the wilderness.
Wild Things
Growing up as a ‘bug kid’ with a fascination for nature and animals - my art has always seemed to revolve around wild things to some degree. It started with 4-year-old Chris drawing baboons, wolves and deer from David Attenborough’s ‘The Trials of Life’, and it never really stopped. Below is a selection of recent works that fit together nicely and captured my love for all things wild, weird and creepy crawly. Lots of them were also available as prints via my (currently paused) etsy store.
British Fauna
Pen on paper, 209x296mm
I’ve always had a real fondness for British woodlands and wildlife - there’s something quaint and mysterious about them. In this piece, I included some of my favourite things from British wildlife, and was amazed at all of the different tones, textures, colours and shades.
Included is a robin skull and egg, squirrel skull, emperor moth, Blue John stone, inkcap and fly amanita mushrooms, and more.
Scotland
Pen on paper, 209x296mm
In a similar vein to my British Fauna piece - this was a commissioned piece with a specific focus on iconic and recognisable Scottish things, including thistles, a highland cow, The Kelpies, heather, a sporran, dram of whiskey, Tunnock’s tea cakes and Greyfriars Bobby.
Treasures from the Faraway Fen
Pen, watercolour, acrylic on paper, 297x420mm
Inspired by an incredible photograph by Hector D. Astorga, and the lyrics to ‘Seer’ by Holy Fawn, this piece aimed to capture the essence of true wilderness; total isolation, exposure to the elements, being fully surrounded by nature and the mystery that surrounds vast forests.
